In the last stages of a genetic disease, Ellen Creighton has decided to live out her remaining days at the estate of her longtime friend Harrison Burlington. Harrison cares deeply for Ellen, but as a wheelchair-bound paraplegic, he’s never allowed himself to get serious in a relationship. However, he’s desperately trying to save her by finding the holy water that is believed to heal any disease.

When he locates two flasks, Ellen refuses to drink one of them because she believes the holy water killed her sister and father. In an effort to convince her to take it, Harrison ingests the contents first, and when Ellen witnesses the effects, she can no longer deny the power of the substance in the bottles. Dangerous criminals are also seeking the holy water, and Ellen soon learns they will go to any lengths to get the powerful drug–including sending her back into the past to find it for them.

Bestselling and award-winning author Jody Hedlund plunges you into the swiftly flowing river of history in a race against the clock in this breathtaking, emotional second Waters of Time story.

My Review

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference…

This book. This book had me on a rollercoaster, y’all! My heart was racing at records speeds throughout many parts of this book. This book not only was a time-travel historical fiction romance, but it also had elements of suspense that had your mind reeling at how everything was going to work out in the end. I still have quite a few questions, but those are more personal questions that I want answered not questions that Mrs. Hedlund did not wrap up in the end of this book. Also, I LOVED that she included the Serenity Prayer! I adore this prayer so, so much! 🥺💙

I loved all the characters so dearly. I enjoyed seeing Marian and Will again especially since it had been a good few months since we left them in book 1. Although I didn’t connect to Ellen as much as I did to Marian, I still loved watching her grow and mature throughout this book. There were a few times that I wanted to shack her in order to knock some sense into her, but ultimately I loved getting to know her more in this book. Harrison in the other hand is literally my favorite cinnamon roll EVER! His love for Ellen shown throughout not only book 1, but also this one. He has such a caring and soft personality and Mrs. Hedlund did a phenomenal job at showing just how much he cared for Ellen throughout this entire novel.

Speaking of the romance, I was literally about ready to pull my hair out. One thing that I dislike about friends to lovers is that it takes them SO STICKEN LONG to get together!! I just want to see them together, forgoing all this angst, but I guess that is what a slow burn romance is…torture for everyone involved! 😅 Besides the fact that the characters took forever and a half to get together, their romance was so sweet and I loved seeing them together. I know slow burn is annoying, but friends to lovers is such a precious trope…I love it! 😍

Overall, I loved this book a whole heck of a lot and I really cannot wait to see what Mrs. Hedlund has in store for us next!!

Note: This book does have some heavier physical romance aspects to it making it PG-13, although you read nothing more than kissing, it can be too much for some readers.

*FTC: I received a copy of this book from Revell in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts are my own. I was NOT required to write a positive review.*
